LM-4 Series Secondary Refrigerant Technical Guide
LM-4 general-purpose, LM-4D low-conductivity, LM-4D-YE ultra-low conductivity, LM-430 economical, LM-445 low-temperature, LM-495 high-alkalinity - complete technical guide for 6 LM-4 series products.
The Preferred General-Purpose Water-Based Coolant
The LM-4 series is the most widely applied general-purpose water-based coolant family in the Glacier Coolant product line. With excellent corrosion protection, high cost-effectiveness, and a wide temperature range (-20 to 150C), the LM-4 series has become the preferred solution for cold storage, HVAC, industrial refrigeration, and glycol/brine system replacement.
As a water-based coolant, the LM-4 series contains no organic solvents, is non-flammable and non-explosive, and is safe and environmentally friendly. Its proprietary corrosion inhibitor formulation effectively protects carbon steel, stainless steel, and other common materials, making it ideal for both new and converted systems.
LM-4Series Model Comparison
| Model | Temperature | Key Features | Typical Applications | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LM-4 | -20 to 150C | General-purpose, excellent corrosion protection, cost-effective | Cold storage, HVAC, industrial refrigeration, glycol replacement | Mild copper corrosion at high temps; monitor pH and inhibitor |
| LM-4D | -20 to 150C | Low conductivity, nitrite-free, copper-friendly | Ultrasonic equipment, power electronics cooling | Match conductivity to customer requirements |
| LM-4D-YE | -20 to 80C | Ultra-low conductivity (less than 800 uS/cm) | Mixed-material systems (carbon steel + SS + copper + aluminum) | Confirm specific conductivity requirements |
| LM-430 | -15C freezing point | Economical antifreeze | Closed cooling towers, standard freeze protection | Select freezing point with safety margin; drain water before filling |
| LM-445 | - | Low-temperature coolant | Medium to low temperature industrial refrigeration | For cooling issues, check chiller area and pump flow first |
| LM-495 | - | High reserve alkalinity type | Systems with special alkalinity requirements | Reserve alkalinity > 12mL, pH 7.5-9.5, density 1.10-1.15, customizable |
LM-4Series Key Advantages
Excellent Corrosion Protection
Proprietary inhibitor formulation effectively protects carbon steel and stainless steel. Long-term use requires periodic pH and inhibitor concentration monitoring.
High Cost-Effectiveness
As a general-purpose product, LM-4 offers outstanding cost advantages while meeting the vast majority of refrigeration needs.
Wide Temperature Range
-20 to 150C coverage, from frozen cold storage to high-temperature industrial refrigeration.
Easy System Replacement
Can directly replace glycol, brine, and propylene glycol systems with low conversion threshold.
Safe & Environmentally Friendly
Water-based formula, non-flammable and non-explosive, no special fire protection measures needed.
Low Conductivity Options
LM-4D and LM-4D-YE meet low conductivity requirements for power electronic equipment. LM-4D-YE is compatible with mixed-material systems.
LM-4Series Real Cases
LM-4Series Usage Precautions
High-temperature caution: Mild copper corrosion at 150C; use stainless steel for high-temperature applications.
System cleaning: Thoroughly clean the system before filling to remove oil and impurities. Ammonia system conversions require special attention.
Regular monitoring: Periodically test pH and inhibitor concentration; adjust promptly when abnormalities are detected.
Freezing point margin: Select freezing point 10-15C below minimum operating temperature for adequate safety margin.
Conductivity: LM-4D and LM-4D-YE conductivity must be matched to specific customer requirements; confirm needs before selection.
